30,000 'Surya Mitras' will install solar panels in every house in Uttar Pradesh
The government of Uttar Pradesh has set an ambitious goal to put solar panels on every home in the state. The government is going to train thirty thousand youth as “Surya Mitra” for this. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, through his initiative PM Surya Ghar Yojana, has taken this action to promote solar energy. More than 25 lakh solar rooftops have been built in Uttar Pradesh since the program’s inception in February last year.
What is 'Surya Mitra' initiative?
The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) states that a qualified workforce in the solar energy industry will be necessary to meet the goal of putting solar panels in every household. The state agency wants to use district centers and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to teach 30,000 “Surya Mitras” for this purpose. Over the course of three months, the Surya Mitra program offers 600 hours of intensive instruction.
